Head to the outback on Virgin’s new direct flights from Brisbane

Virgin Australia Airlines will begin dedicated direct flights twice a week from Brisbane to Alice Springs return starting from 19 June. This is great news for Brisbane and Gold Coast adventurers looking to trek the famous Larapinta Trail on our Classic Larapinta Trek in Comfort by Australian Walking Holidays, one of the Great Walks of Australia.

Winding its way through the Northern Territory bushland, this walk experience passes the ancient landscape of the West MacDonnell Ranges. It is a highly regarded trail amongst adventurers well-known for the sunrise summit of Mount Sonder. The Maria Island Walk is celebrating winning GOLD at the Qantas Australia Tourism Awards with 30% off the price of their four day walk.

Tasmania’s Maria Island Walk, through the World Heritage listed island off the east coast, has been awarded best Tour and Transport Operator 2017 at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards. To celebrate they are offering great walkers the opportunity to experience it for themselves with a 30% discount on new direct bookings made for walks departing now through until 30 April 2018.

  

It’s the fourth time the walk – operated by Ian (pictured above) and Bronwyn Johnstone and their team of 19 guides has won an award at a national level in their 15 years of operation, having previously won Best Adventure Tourism in 2008, 2011 and 2012.

The Maria Island Walk is a fully guided three-night, four-day experience into one of Australia’s most spectacular destinations. Small groups (a maximum of ten guests and two guides) wind their way through beaches, rainforest and mountains, taking in the dramatic sea cliffs of Fossil Bay, the peaks of Mt Maria or Bishop and Clerk and the largest stand of giant Tasmanian blue gums. Accommodation is in specially designed wilderness camps with the final night at the colonial Bernacchi House at the Darlington convict site.

As a walking adventure that has been millions of years in the making, the new Scenic Rim Trail by Spicers is truly a one of a kind experience.

 

The revised itinerary is now a three day, three night walk, led by expert guides through the dramatic high country of Queensland, taking in trails rich with history and majestic views.

Hiking between 6.5km-15km per day, walking highlights include the summits of Mt Mitchell and Spicers Peak, glimpsing rare and endangered flora and fauna as well as exploring the cool depths of the rainforest aside Millavale Creek.

New activities include stargazing at night, bush poetry and a very special Aboriginal cultural encounter with a member of the local Ugarapul Tribe on the afternoon of day two, whereby you will have the opportunity to experience a smoke signalling ceremony, boomerang and spear throwing as well as trying your hand at making traditional Aboriginal instruments and art.
