Makeover for Arkaba Homestead
Following a month of intensive work in July, Arkaba’s luxurious heritage homestead reopened in August with a full refurbishment of the homestead exterior and the addition of a new conservatory entrance and expanded lounge area for guests.
For walkers on The Arkaba Walk this means that when they walk into the Arkaba Homestead after 3 days of immersion in the stories that underly one of Australia’s most beautiful outback properties, they are greeted by a supremely comfortable final night to the walk and a sumptuous 3 course dinner prepared by Arkaba’s chef, Daniel, accompanied by premium South Australian wines.
These developments come on top of the upgrades made earlier in the year with Arkaba’s swimming pool and outdoor dining deck being raised to another level.

Nestled discreetly into the landscape 200 metres from the Lodge, the spa and the outdoor bathing pavilion provide the perfect environment to relax and enjoy nature at its purest.
Winner of this years’ LI’TYA “Best Eco Spa” award, our spa is inspired by the revival of indigenous healing practices that has its roots in the Australian Aboriginal Dreaming and harnesses the restorative, clarifying and invigorating properties of Australia’s native plants.
Due to the spa’s popularity, a second treatment room will be opening for this coming season which starts in October and runs through to May 2016. To find out more about the Spa’s signature treatments, click here.

With the summer season fast approaching we have been busy getting our huts in tip top shape and helicoptering in all the supplies. Can you believe that, amongst other goodies, we provisioned 3,600 bottles of wine and 1,500 kilos of flour to make 2,300 loaves of bread? Add everything together for provisioning and that is a staggering 18,000 kilos flown in using 2 helicopters over 2 days. Rest assured it’s not all about the food and wine (which let’s be honest are important).
Did you know that 60% of the alpine plants seen along the Overland Track are endemic? And that some of the pencil pines passed by are over 1000 years old? This is truly an extraordinary walking adventure so be sure to book yours now!
The new season starts in October and runs through to May 2016.

Guests can now experience the award winning Maria Island Walk without having to carry the standard 7kg backpacks, following the introduction of a new pack-free walking option for the 2015/2016 season.
Owner Ian Johnstone said “over the past 13 seasons we have received a number of requests from guests who really wanted to do the walk but due to age or health can’t carry a backpack. Consequently, we have introduced an option where we can transfer guests’ packs between the wilderness camps and to Bernacchi House so all guests need to carry is a water bottle and a jacket”. Enjoying Maria Island’s wilderness and history in style and comfort has been made even easier.
The pack free option is designed for groups and for specific departure dates and incurs an additional service fee.
The new season starts in October and runs through to April 2016.
