With over 25 years of experience in luxury walking, and as operators of both Great Walks of Australia’s Cradle Mountain Huts Walk and the Bay of Fires Lodge Walk, the Tasmanian Walking Company have proven time and again that they provide a top-notch, environmentally friendly experience for walkers looking for that something extraordinary.
Between the days of spectacular scenery on foot, walkers rest in sustainable luxury accommodation, whether it is the huts positioned along the Overland Track on the Cradle Mountain Huts Walk, or in the sand dune nestled Forester Beach Camp and multi-award winning, eco-conscious, Bay of Fires Lodge on the Bay of Fires Lodge Walk.
Further still, The Tasmanian Walking Company’s eco adventures are served up with local cuisine that’s a testament to the heart of Tasmania’s soul. With clean waterways, crisp fresh air and fertile soils, these walks are enveloped with delicious local produce and decadent wines, taking the experience to beyond the gold level!
And the awards for Tasmania did not stop there. Some of the features of the Freycinet Experience Walk were also awarded with the Freycinet National Park being awarded bronze for Major Tourist Attractions and Saffire Freycinet winning Gold for Luxury Accommodation.
Once again our huge congratulations to the Tasmanian Walking Company and all other award winners and nominees at this year’s Australian Tourism Awards!

It’s been a year of celebration at Freycinet Experience Walk with their beautiful Friendly Beaches Lodge accommodation turning 25 years old.
Designed by owner and guided walking pioneer, Joan Masterman in conjunction with Ken Latona (who also designed Bay of Fires Lodge and the Cradle Mountain Huts), this lodge is a tribute to timeless design and environmentally sound architecture. The purpose built lodge provides a beautiful home for walkers with a focus on comfort, environment, fine art and relaxation. It is located on a 130 hectare site in a private location with beach access.
On this occasion, Mrs Masterman said, “Friendly Beaches is a magical place. I am incredibly fortunate to have been the owner-operator of the Freycinet Experience Walk for 25 years. The dedication of the Tasmanian guides has ensured the Walk’s ongoing success. ”
The anniversary of the lodge also coincides with the centenary of Freycinet National Park, created in 1916 along with Mt Field as Tasmania’s first national parks. It’s been a big year celebrating this combined 125th anniversary!
