Great Walks of Australia founding member The Freycinet Experience Walk has achieved the highest level of eco-certification by Eco Tourism Australia: Advanced Eco-Certified.
This exciting step is just rewards for one of the Australian Tourism Industry’s pioneers in Eco Tourism. Owner Joan Masterman has been one of the tourism industry’s quiet, passionate achievers, being part of the founding team with architect Ken Latona to launch the Cradle Mountain Huts Walk 25 years ago, and open the Friendly Beaches Lodge on the Freycinet Peninsula shortly after.
Celebrating 21 years of continuous operation under Ms Masterman’s ownership, The Freycinet Experience Walk stays exclusively at the wholly owned Friendly Beaches Lodge.
The Lodge showcases stunning eco architecture that rests lightly on the earth, and boasts solar only power, harvested rainwater for all water requirements and self composting toilets, amongst its’ many sustainable features.
Situated on a 130-hectare private sanctuary, Friendly Beaches Lodge is surrounded by the Friendly Beaches National Park. The location and isolation of the lodge is sublime. Exclusively for the use of the walking group (maximum ten guests), the uncomplicated luxury of the lodge has remarkable powers of rejuvenation. A fine collection of artworks by prominent Tasmanian artists and a well-stocked library enhance your experience.
Manager Claire Richardson is delighted with the achievement. “This certification reflects our 21 years of operation in the eco-space, and is formal recognition of a standard of operation we achieve daily.”
All Great Walks of Australia are now Advanced Eco Certified by Eco Tourism Australia.
